About The Position

The Motion Control Systems division is seeking a Manager II, Engineering, North America Applications and Systems, located onsite at our global headquarters in Radford, Virginia. This role leads the North America Level 2 Applications Engineering and Systems Engineering team. The position reports functionally through Product Engineering, with a dotted-line relationship to the MCS Global Vice President of Sales because its primary activities are customer-facing. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, hands-on leader with strong structured problem-solving skills who can balance strategic improvement work with daily support for key customer accounts. Tactically, the Manager leads immediate technical problem solving leveraging the team, ensuring products meet customer requirements and function as intended. Both internally and in processes that involve customers (e.g., commissioning experiences), the Manager drives efficiency and productivity gains. This function leads technical support to sales and customers, resolving queries with a goal toward customer satisfaction. Strategically, the Manager drives innovation by integrating new technologies and systems with purpose and a goal of customer success. It contributes to strategic planning by forecasting future technical needs as an input to product planning. The position ensures high standards in interoperability and in the outcomes of our product developments, maintaining the company’s reputation for quality and reliability.

  • Solid understanding of engineering documents (Schematics, Component Data Sheets, PCB Layout, and product specifications) and technical product literature.

  • Experience with the use of multi-meters, oscilloscopes and data recorders for the purpose of troubleshooting product & systems issues.
  • Experienced with EMC /EMI issues including wiring, shielding and grounding practices.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • 10 + years of industrial experience in Industrial Automation in a technical discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years application engineering, systems engineering or design engineering with heavy customer interface required.
  • Management or leadership experience.

Responsibilities

  • Post-sales customer support of MCS products and systems.
  • Collaborate with the L1 pre-sales Applications team to ensure cross-functional alignment and interactions resulting in a more seamless and positive customer experience.
  • Collaborate with EMEAI and Asia Applications Engineering teams to leverage shared knowledge, experience, and capabilities; adopt best practices; and drive standardization across regions.
  • Lead, track, and maintain data for Policy Deployment Targets to Improve and Key Performance Indicators and achieving them through a closed-loop, continuous improvement and problem-solving approach.
  • Manage the North America Product Training function to ensure effective planning and delivery of external customer training, both in-house and at customer sites.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and facilitate live training sessions scheduled periodically throughout the year both on-site and off-site.
  • Create and maintain training content including presentation materials and demo/test units used during the class.
  • Design course work and class syllabus to ensure maximum interest and impact to our customers.
  • Establish standard work that defines the North America support structure and interfaces with other business functions.
  • Promote the growth and development of applications and systems teams at all levels to expand the capabilities and expertise within the group, including L1.
  • Assist North America Production, Quality and Engineering teams with defining quality issues and testing new products in development per customer requirements.
  • Make determinations of need and schedule field service visits for troubleshooting, commissioning and training purposes.
  • Manage the budget of the Applications and Systems Engineering team.
  • Travel up to 25% to customer sites.
