About The Position

The Manager of Apparatus Testing and Maintenance is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and performance of the Testing and Maintenance group. This position has full responsibility for the group's operational and financial performance, including profit and loss (P&L), personnel decisions, safety, training, field work coverage, test equipment, fleet management, and development and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs). The Manager is responsible for ensuring the department has the personnel, equipment, processes, and resources necessary to safely and effectively support customer and operational requirements. This is a hands-on leadership position that requires the Manager to provide technical and operational support in the field when business or staffing needs require.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in electrical apparatus testing, electrical maintenance, power systems, or a related industrial electrical field.
  • Demonstrated experience managing field personnel, equipment, scheduling, and operational resources.
  • Experience with departmental budgeting, cost control, forecasting, and/or P&L management.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet Company driving requirements.
  • Ability to travel to customer locations and work in the field as operational needs require.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical apparatus testing, inspection, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair practices.
  • Knowledge of electrical power distribution systems and associated testing and maintenance requirements.
  • Working knowledge of applicable OSHA, NFPA 70E, electrical safety, and industry standards and practices.
  • Knowledge of electrical test equipment, including proper use, calibration, maintenance, and documentation requirements.
  • Strong understanding of field service operations, manpower planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Ability to manage departmental financial performance, including revenue, labor, equipment costs, expenses, budgets, and profitability.
  • Strong leadership and personnel management skills, including hiring, performance management, coaching, training, and employee development.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and maintain SOPs and other operational procedures.
  • Strong organizational, planning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and customer requirements simultaneously.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with employees, customers, and management.
  • Ability to identify operational risks and implement appropriate corrective actions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling personnel and business matters.
  • Proficiency with standard business software and electronic reporting systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Electrical Technology, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • Experience working in industrial environments such as petrochemical, refining, power generation, manufacturing, or similar facilities preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and direction for the Testing and Maintenance group.
  • Maintain full responsibility for the group's P&L performance, including revenue, expenses, labor costs, equipment costs, budgeting, forecasting, and profitability.
  • Plan and coordinate staffing and field work coverage to ensure customer and operational requirements are met.
  • Make or participate in personnel decisions, including hiring, staffing, employee development, performance management, corrective action, and workforce planning.
  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture and ensure employees comply with Company, customer, and regulatory safety requirements.
  • Ensure employees receive appropriate technical, safety, and operational training necessary to safely and effectively perform assigned work.
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the Testing and Maintenance group.
  • Oversee the acquisition, assignment, maintenance, calibration, inspection, and proper use of test equipment.
  • Ensure test equipment and other departmental assets are maintained in safe and serviceable condition and available to support field operations.
  • Manage departmental fleet activities and ensure Company vehicles are properly assigned, maintained, inspected, and operated in accordance with Company policies.
  • Monitor compliance with Company vehicle and driver policies and address identified deficiencies.
  • Coordinate manpower, equipment, vehicles, and other resources necessary to support scheduled and emergency field work.
  • Monitor project and departmental performance and implement corrective measures when financial, operational, safety, or quality expectations are not being met.
  • Maintain effective communication with customers, field personnel, project management, and Company leadership.
  • Support customer relationships and assist with resolving operational, technical, or service-related concerns.
  • Review operational needs and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, productivity, safety, quality, and profitability.
  • Maintain appropriate departmental records, reports, equipment documentation, and other required operational information.
  • Participate directly in field work when necessary to support customer requirements, staffing needs, emergency response, or other operational demands.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
