The Senior Substation Apparatus Technician is an advanced-level technical leadership position responsible for overseeing and performing the testing, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and commissioning of substation apparatus with minimal supervision. This role independently executes complex field electrical testing activities to ensure the safe and reliable operation of high-voltage substation equipment. The Senior Substation Apparatus Technician is expected to recommend and implement measures to improve field service operations, technical quality, and customer service. This position may be assigned work individually, lead field crews, or serve as the primary technical lead on large or complex electrical substation and powerplant projects. The Senior Substation Apparatus Technician reports directly to the Apparatus Operations Manager and works closely with Apparatus Supervisors, engineers, project managers, and other team members to ensure industry-standard testing practices, safety procedures, and documentation requirements are consistently followed while performing hands-on work in substations and power facilities. This position is suited for individuals who demonstrate advanced technical expertise and leadership in substation apparatus testing and electrical power systems. Effective communication with the Apparatus Operations Manager and Apparatus Supervisor is required throughout active projects and when awaiting assignment and/or during standby time. Often requires extensive travel and non-standard schedules at field locations with exposure to varying environmental conditions.
