About The Position

Responsibilities include organizing, coordinating and evaluating value-oriented laboratory services offered in an expeditious manner for quality patient care. The manager is accountable for personnel staffing, training coordination, accuracy and timeliness of procedure performance, budgeting, materials management, regulatory compliance and evaluation of results within Laboratory Services. Duties are to be done in such a manner as to apply and contribute to the St. Joseph’s Health mission and values. Must demonstrate the organization's commitment to sound ethical business practices as directed by the Corporate Compliance Office and approved by the Board of Trustees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and certificate from a school of medical technology, histotechnology or cytotechnology, or any other culmination meeting supervisory qualifications of the NYS Department of Health.
  • Hold a valid New York State License from the Department of Education as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist (CLT), Cytotechnologist © or Certified Histological Technician (CHT).
  • Six Years’ laboratory experience required.
  • Good communication, interpersonal and organized skills.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds and sit, bend, and squat for extended periods of time.
  • Demonstrates technical competence in bench work as needed, troubleshooting and problem solving.

Responsibilities

  • Budgeting, materials management, regulatory compliance and evaluation of results within Laboratory Services.
  • Delegates work effectively and sets priorities with realistically achievable goals.
  • Involves respective section staff in achieving organization and department goals.

  • Regularly evaluates the testing needs of the organization in collaboration with both the Medical and Administrative Director.
  • Evaluates methods/instruments from quality and cost perspectives.
  • Assures test results, quality control, and quality assurance data are reviewed timely to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Works collaboratively with other professionals throughout the organization.
  • Effectively assesses and improves work unit’s performance.
  • Assists the Medical and Administrative Directors in monitoring and maintaining an efficient and effective laboratory which provides timely, accurate, and precise results to physicians for the optimal health care of all patients.
  • Establishes and maintains data required to monitor indicators identified.
  • Develops and maintains a system for proper reporting and investigation of incidents involving employees, patients and visitors.
  • Trends and tracks data to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Facilitates the development of improvement plan that addresses changes required and helps implement the changes.
  • Coordinates and implements educational sessions as indicated.
  • Prepares quarterly quality improvement reports summarizing monitoring activities.
  • Reports and projects are completed in an organized and timely manner.
  • Ensures inspection reports are satisfactory.
  • Utilizes all information system functions as required or indicated.
  • Hires, terminates, disciplines and evaluates staff.
  • Ensures daily staffing meets department needs within the established budget.
  • Holds staff and self-accountable for work processes and outcomes.
  • Counsels, coaches, guides and motivates staff to maintain productivity and employee engagement.
  • Provides both positive and constructive performance feedback on an ongoing basis.
  • Ensures competency of staff and addresses defined learning needs.
  • Develops leadership skills in employees.
  • Provides constructive, informative and timely performance reviews.
  • Encourages and supports an environment of teamwork and positive peer relationships.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, state & local laws/regulations, Trinity Health Integrity & Compliance Program & Code of conduct, as well as other policies, procedures & guidelines in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical & professional behavior and safe work practices.
