About The Position

The Manager, Alternatives Investment Reporting will be a key member of the Alternatives Administration team and will be responsible for designing an overarching investment data and reporting strategy and discipline for the company to aid in enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of Alternative Investment reporting for the company, supporting the achievement of Great-West Lifeco's global investment reporting objectives. The Manager will be responsible for oversight over reporting and analysis on Lifeco's consolidated alternatives investment portfolio while leading a team of professional accounting and finance staff. This role has a broad scope of reach, with the opportunity to work with investment and finance team contacts across the Company’s locations around the world. This position manages four direct reports and reports to the AVP, Investment Operations & Reporting.

Requirements

  • University degree is required, preferably in commerce, economics, finance, or other related field.
  • A recognized accounting designation (CPA or CFA).
  • 7+ years of experience in accounting, investments, or finance
  • Experience at building and leading high performing engaged teams and proven ability to build collaborative partnerships.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
  • Must be detail-oriented, highly organized, self-motivated, and possess strong time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and in writing, and ability to translate complex messages and recommendations into concise proposals, reports, and presentations.
  • Ability to work within a highly time sensitive culture with multiple deliverables, often on the same timeline and requiring the significant use of judgement.
  • Ability to anticipate, analyze and respond to a rapidly evolving and complex environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with alternative investments including private equity, separately managed accounts (SMAs), and CLOs is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute on the delivery of a wide variety of reporting and analysis on Investment activity, holdings, earnings, and budgets for senior management
  • Design and implement processes that will support the timely delivery of complete and accurate alternative investment data to stakeholders to enable critical investment analysis capabilities
  • Facilitate reporting to regional and global CIOs
  • Establish controlled, reliable, and adaptable reporting processes for alternative investments; coordinate alternative investment reporting with regional processes for watchlists, investment policy testing, commitment & contingency reporting, related party transaction reporting, information barriers, etc
  • Management of alternative investment data
  • Support annual budgeting exercise for this global asset class and support regional income budgeting processes and quarterly reporting by supporting cash flow estimate/projection process, providing information to IFM, capital management and ALM.
  • Work with Investment and Information Services teams to update and continuously improve the Company’s global investment data and related reporting systems. Support changes and improvements to technology and data storage.
  • Assist in the preparation of investment compliance reports concerning the Company’s investment policies, as well as ongoing analysis of portfolio changes.
  • Facilitate performance reporting and benchmarking for all types of alternative investments at global and regional levels.
  • Work with strategic external partners to evaluate third party tools and datasets.
  • Facilitate regular internal controls, operational risk assessments and policy and procedure updates.
  • Create and maintain a positive work environment and manage employees that may be based in the US (Denver), Canada (primarily Winnipeg) and India (Bangalore).
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to accelerate the development of team members through a clear and compelling vision, establishment of goals, measurement of performance, and continuous feedback.
  • Analyze financial information and investment results, including ad hoc analysis for Senior Management and business partners.
  • Participate in and complete ad hoc projects and reports, as required.
