About The Position

This is a mid-level management position for a Forester with comprehensive knowledge of government, state, and federal timber procurement and contract management. The role involves utilizing forestry and contracting expertise to prepare proposals, administer, and implement complex stewardship contracts on federal or other lands. The position requires collaboration with the entire procurement team and contractors to integrate large and long-lived stewardship contracts into the departmental workflow.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Business or related field
  • Demonstrated initiative and the ability to apply acquired knowledge regarding situations requiring independent decisions
  • Technical knowledge of forest management, timber production, and wood procurement activities
  • Ability to work alone on individual projects with little or no supervision
  • Familiarity with local and regional resource issues and their impacts
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of audiences
  • Valid Driver’s License with acceptable MVR history for business travel in company vehicle

Responsibilities

  • Considers all aspects of timber sale purchases, weighing purchases against costs (fixed and variable) while considering quality and production constraints.
  • Coordinates with Division Foresters and Director of Forest Operations on activities.
  • Communicates with other IFG Agency Resource Managers to determine cross-divisional procurement needs.
  • Provides direct oversight and communication for division Foresters on Stewardship sales and activities.
  • Coordinates and manages sale appraisals.
  • Coordinates pre-sale cruise needs based on timing and sale assessment.
  • Maintains fiscal oversight for fixed and variable cost assessment.
  • Provides harvest scheduling coordination.
  • Provides intermediary support and consultation to mid and upper-level Agency managers for significant operational issues.
  • Provides mentoring as needed.
  • Approves Contractor invoicing and provides IFG timber sale Accounting Admin with necessary fiscal information for accounting requirements.
  • Exercises contractual signing authorities for timber procurement agreements and associated financial/contract obligations.
  • Coordinates Mill Log Yard function and needs to optimize log flow.
  • Provides input to IFG Sawmill, Sales, and Fiscal managers as requested or necessary.
  • Negotiates outside sale/purchase agreements as requested.
  • Maintains interdisciplinary contact with Agency Representatives and Industry groups.
  • Performs Purchaser Representative/Forester duties on Agency sales when available.
  • Other duties as needed.
