About The Position

This position is responsible for performing criminal analysis duties in support of the Intelligence Unit of the DeKalb County Police Department. The Management Analyst I (Crime Analyst) role involves observing and performing the work of various positions within the department to gain experience and understand operations. Duties may include a combination of administrative, clerical, professional analysis, and customer service tasks. The role requires conducting operational research, productivity analyses, and management studies to understand departmental operations, programs, and services. This includes compiling and monitoring administrative and statistical data, researching information, analyzing data to identify trends, preparing reports, and making recommendations for improvements in policies, procedures, and resource optimization. The position also involves coordinating and implementing special projects, participating in their planning, design, and evaluation, and assisting with resource allocation. Additionally, the role provides research and analytical support for strategic and long-range planning, participates in local and regional planning efforts, and researches legislation impacting the department. Financial reviews and analyses, including cost analysis and budget development support, are also part of the responsibilities. The analyst will respond to public inquiries, research problems, and initiate resolutions. Participation in meetings and providing regular updates to the director or supervisor are expected.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business/Public Administration or a related field required.
  • This classification is considered to be an entry-level professional position.
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous work experience is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or related field is preferred.
  • At least one year experience in law enforcement related statistical analysis is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs to include Excel, Access or comparable program(s) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Observes and performs the work of various positions in the department to gain experience and learn about operations.
  • Conducts operational research, productivity analyses, and management studies.
  • Compiles and monitors administrative and statistical data pertaining to divisional operations.
  • Researches information pertinent to tasks or projects.
  • Analyzes data and identifies trends.
  • Prepares or generates reports.
  • Makes recommendations for changes in policies and procedures to improve operations, provide more responsive service, and optimize resource use.
  • Performs tasks associated with the coordination or implementation of special projects for the department.
  • Participates in the planning, design, and evaluation of projects.
  • Assists in defining the scope of projects.
  • Identifies and recommends proper allocation of financial, material, and human resources for projects.
  • Formulates possible solutions or alternatives to service delivery.
  • Provides administrative support to projects as needed.
  • Provides research and analytical assistance to department managers in support of strategic and long-range planning.
  • Participates in planning efforts at the local and regional level.
  • Researches pending legislation or other developments at the state and federal level that may impact the department.
  • Performs financial reviews and analyses for the department.
  • Compiles and evaluates operational data and cost histories.
  • Monitors and reviews billing activities, expenditures, and financial reports.
  • Conducts detailed cost analysis.
  • Makes recommendations to improve cost and operational effectiveness.
  • Participates in budget development.
  • Responds to complaints and questions related to County or department operations, activities, or other issues.
  • Provides information, researches problems, and initiates problem resolution.
  • Participates in various meetings, functions, and events as appropriate.
  • Receives information about departmental operations.
  • Participates in discussions and decisions.
  • Keeps the director or the assigned supervisor apprised of all activities.
  • May be required to submit periodic reports detailing activities and observations of the work performed.
