About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This position operates mammography equipment and performs various mammography-related examinations to produce radiograph images for clinical screening and diagnostic purposes. The role ensures accurate body positioning and provides mammograms to women under direct supervision, implementing radiation safety standards and relevant policies. The technologist processes and evaluates the technical quality of images, and delivers care and support services to clients before, during, and after mammogram procedures, including explaining procedures and answering inquiries. A positive attitude, compassion, and acceptance of diversity are essential. The role involves maintaining records and updating history associated with mammography, and educating women on the importance of mammography in preventing breast cancer. A strong understanding of anatomy, pathology, physiology, and medical terminology is required, along with maintaining continuing education credits. Facility sites may expand job responsibilities to include on-call rotation nights, weekends, and holidays, performing diagnostic radiology procedures, basic diagnostic radiology tasks, and awareness of general radiology protocols. Additional duties may include mobile imaging, electrocardiogram (EKG), cardiac monitor placement, and dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) procedures.

Requirements

Completion of an educational program accepted by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) is required.
Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required.
Certified or obtain ARRT certification in Mammography within one year of hire.
When applicable, maintenance of a valid driver’s license and good driving record is required.
Employees are held to the Sanford category driver's license policy and medical guidelines when applicable for job duties.
If working in North Dakota and performing medical imaging or radiation therapy procedures, licensure through the North Dakota Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (NDMIRT) Board is required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within six weeks of employment and re-certification as necessary is required.

Responsibilities

Operates mammography equipment and performs various mammography-related examinations to produce radiograph images for clinical screening and diagnostic purposes.
Ensures accurate body positioning and provides mammograms to women under direct supervision.
Implements radiation safety standards and relevant policies into imaging practices.
Processes and evaluates the technical quality of images.
Delivers care and support services to clients before, during, and after mammogram procedures (e.g. explaining procedures, answering inquires, etc.).
Maintains records and updates history associated with mammography.
Educates women the importance of mammography in preventing breast cancer.
Demonstrates knowledge and an understanding of anatomy, pathology, physiology, and medical terminology.
Maintains continuing education credits as necessary.
Perform diagnostic radiology procedures.
Perform basic diagnostic radiology tasks and aware of general radiology protocols.
May perform mobile imaging, electrocardiogram (EKG), cardiac monitor placement, and dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) procedures.
