About The Position

Responsible for operating x-ray and mammography equipment to produce images for early detection while working with a trained and certified radiologist. This role involves positioning patients, operating equipment, instructing patients on procedure requirements, acquiring medical history, performing quality assurance, preventing unnecessary radiation exposure, communicating compassionately with patients, and working effectively with colleagues and radiologists. The technologist will also utilize system applications for patient workflow, adhere to ACR and ARRT guidelines, and perform housekeeping duties such as laundry and stocking supplies. Attendance at meetings and training sessions may be required, potentially outside regular working hours.

Requirements

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
One to three months related experience and/or training.
Must hold a current ARRT certificate.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch.
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

Willing to obtain a Mammography Certification within 1 year (open to on-the-job training for registered RTs).
Continuing education in accordance with the ARRT, ACR, and State of Michigan.

Responsibilities

Positions patients for the proper view (s) according to exam ordered or requested.
Operates mammography equipment to create breast images ordered by physician(s).
Instructs patients as to the proper physiological requirements for the procedure.
Acquires patient medical history.
Perform Quality Assurance when necessary for regulated calibrations and other accredited factors.
Prevent unnecessary radiation exposure both to themselves and to the patient.
Communicate compassionately and accurately to the patient to explain what they are about to experience.
Work effectively and efficiently with fellow colleagues and radiologists daily.
Effective use of system applications to perform patient workflow.
Work according to the rules set forth from the ACR and ARRT governing bodies.
Housekeeping items such as keeping up on laundry, stocking of supplies, helping other colleagues with patients, etc.
Attendance at meetings and training sessions may be required.
