About The Position

The Mammography Technologist is primarily responsible for detecting breast tissue abnormalities by completing mammographic imaging studies and presenting them for diagnosis. This role involves comprehensive patient care, from obtaining history and explaining procedures to ensuring patient comfort and safety during examinations. The technologist operates and maintains specialized radiologic equipment, including Digital Radiography (DR) systems, and adheres strictly to radiologic standards, safety regulations, and infection control policies. Beyond technical duties, the position requires strong communication, computer proficiency, and a detail-oriented approach, along with active participation in the Radiology team and continuous professional development.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • ARRT Certified Required and must maintain CEU’s.
  • Mammographic Radiologic Technology certified.
  • Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) required (must complete within six months if not current at time of hire).
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks and adjust to shifting priorities.
  • Knowledge of radiologic standards, requirements, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of radiologic safety, cleanliness and infection control policies and regulations.
  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly (Accuracy).
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing (Communication).
  • Proficient ability to use a computer and electronic medical record (Computer Skills).

Responsibilities

  • Complete mammographic imaging studies to detect breast tissue abnormalities and present them for diagnosis.
  • Obtain patient history, explain standard procedures, and address patient concerns to foster a sense of comfort and confidence to patients and ensure the needs of the individual patients are met.
  • Operate radiologic equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes.
  • Position radiologic equipment and adjust controls to set exposure time and distance according to specification of examination.
  • Take x-rays following established radiologic requirements and regulations to ensure patient care and safety.
  • Utilize the DR (Digital Radiography) to obtain quality image.
  • Ensure radiologic equipment remains in working order and report equipment malfunctions to Director of Radiology.
  • Prepare patients for radiologic procedure, escort patients to dressing and x-ray rooms, provide verbal and/or written instructions and assist patient in positioning body parts to be radiographed.
  • Explain procedures and observe patients to ensure patient care, safety, and comfort during exam.
  • Perform A.I.D.E.T on every patient and employee.
  • Use radiation safety measures and protection devices to ensure safety of patients and team members.
  • Perform related administrative duties including completing necessary forms, labeling images and maintain procedure logs and prior authorization logs.
  • Retrieve radiologic orders from and input related into the electronic medical record.
  • Maintain adequate radiologic supplies.
  • Serve as back-up for clinical team members as needed by controlling patient flow and administering injectables.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
  • Seek opportunities for continued growth and performance improvement.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and manner.
  • Complete work in a timely manner.
  • Comply, understand and enforce state and federal regulatory requirements related to the performance of Community Hospital operations and requirements, including but not limited to HIPAA, the Code of Conduct, the Compliance Policy, Safety and Infection Control, all department and organization-wide policies, Critical Access Hospital requirements, and Federal and State of Missouri Regulations.

  • Attend all scheduled meetings and participate as part of these meetings.
