About The Position

Coming Soon to Chesterfield! Located at 10031 Nash Road, VCU Health Chesterfield Pavilion will be a four-story, approximately 100,000-square-foot ambulatory surgery center and medical office building, bringing comprehensive, patient-centered outpatient care closer to residents in one of Virginia’s largest counties. Scheduled to open in April 2027, the state-of-the-art facility will bring together surgical services, diagnostics, infusion therapy, pharmacy services, innovative care models, and more in a single, convenient location for Chesterfield residents. We are hiring team members now to help build the future of outpatient care from the ground up in one of Virginia’s fastest-growing communities. The practice of mammography is performed by radiologic technologists who have initially met the qualifications to administer ionizing radiation. The technologist must subsequently have met the federal mammography training requirements as specified in the Mammography Quality Standards Act of 1992 (MQSA). A mammography technologist performs radiographic procedures and related techniques, producing images at the request of and for interpretation by a licensed independent practitioner.

Requirements

  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT) or Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB), ARRT-M
  • BLS
  • Successfully completed their 6-month orientation
  • Experienced and competent in routine and complex studies.
  • Complete understanding of technical standards, scope of practice, department and health system policies, and safety and service standards.
  • Complete understanding of imaging equipment, image processing software, instrumentation, and ancillary patient care equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all the duties of a Mammography Technologist I.
  • Provide accurate explanations and instructions to the patient and family using age-appropriate language and verifying that the patient understands and agrees to the completion of the ordered exam.
  • Perform ordered exams or therapy in accordance with established imaging protocols while respecting the patient’s ability and comfort.
  • Adhere to policies and utilize protocols to determine that expected outcomes have been met.
  • Document deviations from protocol and/or patient-specific issues that may impact image quality.
  • Notify the appropriate health care provider when an immediate clinical response is necessary based on procedural findings, patient condition, or other relevant concerns that may impact patient safety or care.
  • Timely complete all required post-processing, image display, and transfer for physician review.
  • Demonstrate timely order closure, charge entry, and PACS QA completion.
  • Routinely cover open shifts as appropriate based on your level of competency.
  • Initiate service calls and follow up until issues are resolved.
  • Independently perform all 'routine' Breast Imaging exams utilizing the Section protocols.
  • Competent in US-guided breast biopsies.
  • Competent in performing ductography.
