About The Position

Reporting to the Manager of Diagnostic Imaging, The Mammography Technologist is responsible for the delivery of patient centered care while operating mammographic and/or sonographic equipment and techniques with minimal supervision while exercising independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative. The Mammography Technologist is responsible for operating a mammography and/or ultrasound unit to produce high quality images of the breasts for screening and diagnostic purposes, while continuously remaining responsive to and responsible for each patient in their care. The Mammography Technologist is responsible for effective communication in a multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary environment while fostering a culture of safety in the workplace. Travel to other sites may be required.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Radiological Technology
  • Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) certification
  • Nova Scotia Regulator of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (NSRMIRT) licensure
  • Willing to obtain continuing education as part of the CAR Mammography Accreditation Program (CAR-MAP), which includes annual maintenance of continuing education course (15 hours CME credits every 3 years)
  • Willing to obtain Breast Imaging I and Breast Imaging II courses (25 continuing education hours per course), and Bring your Position Upfront: Breast Position Virtual Session (1 hour session)
  • Basic Life Support Certification
  • Ability to use time effectively by organizing and prioritizing duties, while working independently and under minimal supervision
  • Possess the physical capabilities to perform the duties of the position
  • Demonstrates initiative, organizational and prioritizing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within inter-professional teams
  • Comprehension of the technical language to be able to review and use manuals and take part in relevant discussions

Nice To Haves

  • Certificate in Breast Screening (CBIS) and Certificate in Breast Imaging Diagnostic (CBID) an asset
  • Previous experience is an asset
  • Qualification to work in more than one Diagnostic Imaging modality is an asset
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
