The Mammography Technologist is responsible for understanding the operation, technique factors, and function of the mammographic systems in the department. This role involves operating all mammographic equipment, selecting and modifying technical factors, and ensuring optimal image quality with the lowest possible radiation dose. The technologist performs daily equipment checks, identifies and reports any malfunctions or hazards, and engages in problem-solving related to equipment or patient positioning. They are skilled in common mammographic projections, technical controls, and the principles of physics, anatomy, medical terminology, and radiation protection. The role includes patient care, positioning, radiation protection, and performing specialized techniques. Additionally, the technologist is responsible for producing high-quality mammography, managing procedure setup, patient communication, maintaining cleanliness, obtaining patient history, billing, and supporting emergency care. Associated transport and clerical duties are also part of the role.
