Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Mammography program required
  • ARRT(R) certification required
  • State of California Radiology and Mammography certifications required
  • BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required
  • A minimum of 1 year of Mammography experience required

  • ARRT(M) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine to moderately complex screening and diagnostic mammography exams utilizing approved procedures and protocols per standards of practice for speed, organization, precision and accuracy based upon the departmental and federal MQSA’s guidelines.
  • Adheres to department productivity standards.
  • Per scope of practice and in accordance with institutional and departmental policy and procedure, receives and transcribes verbal orders from licensed independent practitioners.
  • Accurate and timely documentation in all applicable electronic medical records system, workbooks and or logs.
  • Responsible for weekend and begin and/or end of shift duties as applicable to shift assignment.
  • Previews all mammography images and monitors for accuracy prior to pushing to Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and breast imaging viewing system(s).
  • Performs section specific imaging quality control (QC) procedures using established technical factors and image identification.
  • May assist physicians performing procedures and ensures all supplies and/or devices are prepared and available in accordance with infection control policies and practices.
  • Adheres to the medication management/disposal guidelines, to include receiving, stocking, and holding the medication container provided by the Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) to enable the LIP to withdraw medication and discard the container once it is empty.
  • Operates, calibrates and maintains imaging equipment and accessory instruments used in imaging procedures.
  • Recognizes and reports defective equipment immediately and marks equipment as “out of service”.
  • Takes an active role in obtaining service for down equipment.
  • Participates in the evaluation of new imaging equipment.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities and other department/organizational committees, such as Shared Accountability Team, Joint Commission, and safety audits.
  • Maintains the section workflow without jeopardizing patient care.
