About The Position

The Mammography Technologist is responsible for performing mammography examinations in compliance with ACR (American College of Radiology) requirements. The role includes performing screening and diagnostic mammography exams, assisting with breast ultrasound, stereotactic biopsy, breast localization, and other radiologic guided procedures within the Breast Center. The technologist will also assist in quality control procedures and patient education regarding breast health and procedures.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Licensed Mammography Technologist
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an AMA-approved School of Radiologic Technology.
  • ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification required
  • Active Diagnostic Radiography License
  • Must obtain Mammography Certification within the first 3 months of employment
  • Expertise in mammography imaging techniques and breast procedures
  • Strong communication skills for patient education and team collaboration
  • Knowledge of quality control procedures and regulatory compliance

  • No additional experience required beyond the 2 years as a Licensed Mammography Technologist.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic and screening mammography exams on adult, adolescent, and geriatric patients in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist in breast needle localization and stereotactic procedures, including setup and cleanup.
  • Help with ultrasound-guided procedures.
  • Provide appropriate immobilization devices and ensure proper technical factors are selected based on individual patient needs.
  • Accurately mark films and identify patient details (e.g., name, x-ray number).
  • Perform quality control checks, including phantom image tests, film processing methods, darkroom fog tests, and screen cleanliness.
  • Ensure compliance with ACR, MQSA, NJ State, and FDA regulations.
  • Instruct patients on breast self-exam (BSE) and other relevant patient education, including pre and post-procedure instructions.
  • Complete requisitions, track patient follow-ups, and maintain proper records.
  • Document quality control procedures as per industry standards.
  • Modify and deliver care specific to the needs of the patient population, including adapting communication strategies to suit the patient's developmental, age, and literacy levels.
