About The Position

The Mammography Technologist and Breast Sonographer is responsible for performing screening and diagnostic mammography exams, breast ultrasounds, and biopsies and procedures on patients using specialized equipment. This position works closely with radiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and high-quality imaging results. This is a “hybrid” role used in areas where both mammography and sonography are required to provide patient care and this role requires a strong understanding of imaging techniques in both mammography and ultrasound, excellent patient care skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited program of Radiologic Technology
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Mammography
  • Rad Tech license in state of practice, if applicable in state of practice
  • Basic Life Support certification (BLS) for healthcare providers
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency in Mammography and breast Ultrasound

Nice To Haves

  • ARRT Breast Ultrasound or ARDMS Sonography or ARDMS Sonography
  • Three years of experience working in Mammography and breast Ultrasound

Responsibilities

  • Maintains American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or modality-specific competency in all clinical and technical functions
  • Ensures proper patient identification, orders verification, and prepares the patient for the exam
  • Performs radiologic breast imaging exams per department protocol including Breast Ultrasound and advanced Mammography procedures like stereotactic biopsies, Ultrasound core biopsies, clip placements, drainages, etc.
  • Demonstrates positioning competency.
  • Operates the mammography and ultrasound equipment with skills to identify and record anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information, ensuring high quality images are produced.
  • Adheres to radiation safety guidelines and maintains a safe working environment.
  • Provides appropriate patient education, ensures patient comfort, and addresses concerns.
  • Practices appropriate infection control and sterile techniques.
  • Thoroughly and accurately completes all required documentation, record patient information, procedures performed and any adverse reactions.
  • Follows protocols, coding, charging, consents, QC programs, and reporting equipment failures.
