About The Position

The Mammography Assistant Part-Time will assist the radiologist and technologist during interventional breast imaging procedures, providing direct patient care as needed. This role involves assisting the radiologist during the interpretation of screening mammograms and is responsible for scheduling interventional breast procedures. The assistant will interact with patients, their families, physicians, their office staff, hospital personnel, and community members involved in patient care. Responsibilities may include scheduling appointments, patient registration, data entry, charge posting, updating patient records, and maintaining the mammography and ultrasound film jacket archive. The position also involves documenting and transcribing mammography results as dictated by the radiologist, and handling phone communication with patients and medical personnel. The Mammography Assistant ensures that the needs of the patient, hospital, physicians, and departments are met efficiently and professionally. This role includes cross-training with the receptionist/scheduler and patient navigator to ensure continuous patient care during staff shortages.

Requirements

  • Requires computer expertise with knowledge of word processing and database software.
  • Requires good office and organizational skills.
  • Experience in a patient/customer environment.
  • Requires attention to detail and computer accuracy as pertains to data entry and patient scheduling and competence on basic office machines.
  • Requires good communication skills sufficient for effective and courteous interaction with a diverse group of patients, Hospital personnel, physicians and their staff, and the community.
  • Requires the ability to project a positive image of breast care services through interactions with patients and their families, outside institutions, physicians and other Hospital departments and staff.
  • Knowledge of universal precautions, sterile technique and basic patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Assists radiologist and technologist during interventional breast imaging procedures providing direct patient care as needed.
  • Assist radiologist during the interpretation of screening mammograms.
  • Responsible for scheduling interventional breast procedures.
  • Interacts with patients and the families of patients who come to the Hospital for breast care services.
  • Interacts with physicians and/or their office staff, Hospital and community personnel involved in the care of the patients requiring these services.
  • May assist with scheduling appointments, registration of patients, data entry, charge posting, updating patient record and scheduling interventional breast procedures.
  • Assists in maintaining mammography and ultrasound film jacket archive.
  • Documents mammography results as dictated by the radiologist and transcribes those results as required by local and federal regulator agencies.
  • Phone contact with patient, medical and community personnel.
  • Assures that the needs of the patient, the Hospital, physicians and the Departments are met in a manner that would be recognized to be efficient and professional.
  • Cross-trains with the receptionist/scheduler, and patient navigator to ensure uninterrupted patient care during staff shortages.
