About The Position

The Malnutrition Informatics Specialist RD leads and manages the organization’s malnutrition program in an assigned area. The role combines clinical nutrition expertise with data analysis to improve patient identification, nutrition interventions, physician diagnosis, billing processes, and continuous quality improvement. The specialist analyzes program data and key performance indicators, and mentors, trains, and supports hospital registered dietitians (RDs) and Clinical Nutrition Managers (CNMs). The role also involves extensive travel, clinical support as needed, and reporting program outcomes to HHS leadership.

Requirements

Registered Dietitian credential with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
Licensed Dietitian credential where required by state regulations.
At least 5 years of work experience in a related clinical role.
Expert knowledge of malnutrition, including Nutrition Focused Physical Exam (NFPE) per ASPEN guidelines.
Positive and professional conduct.
Ability to work independently and take initiative.
Experience with data collection and analysis using Excel spreadsheets, and proficiency with computer skills.
Ability to multitask and manage personnel remotely.
Ability to travel up to 75% of the time by air and ground.
Effective oral and written communication with clients, customers, management teams, and clinical teams.

Responsibilities

Oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of hospital malnutrition programs in the assigned area.
Track key performance indicators to assess program effectiveness in improving patient outcomes and increasing malnutrition recognition.
Analyze monthly, hospital site-specific data and use analytics to monitor trends in malnutrition diagnoses, interventions, and outcomes, making data-driven recommendations for program adjustments.
Build and maintain relationships with physicians, nursing staff, RDs, and other healthcare professionals to support collaborative malnutrition management.
Lead or participate in multidisciplinary committees, meetings, and training sessions to raise awareness and promote best practices in malnutrition screening, diagnosis, and treatment.
Ensure staff understand current malnutrition guidelines, tools, and evidence-based practices.
Monitor and train RDs and CNMs on malnutrition assessment and documentation.
Help RDs and facilities meet quality-of-care standards and follow ASPEN guidelines for malnutrition screening and assessment.
Assist the Regional Director of Clinical Nutrition in monitoring RD clinical competency for regulatory compliance.
Provide clinical coverage in areas of responsibility as needed, including completing nutrition assessment and follow-up documentation for patients at risk of malnutrition.
Follow HHS policies and procedures and adapt to different teams, clinical environments, electronic medical records, workflows, and protocols.
Assess program performance and impact through data collection, audits, and performance reviews.
Report program outcomes to HHS leadership, including trends in malnutrition rates, identification accuracy, and impact on patient care and revenue.
Identify improvement opportunities based on data trends and clinical team feedback.
Advocate for organizational policies and clinical practices that promote early recognition, accurate diagnosis, and appropriate treatment of malnutrition.
