About The Position

National Capital Treatment & Recovery, formerly Phoenix House, a nonprofit substance use treatment facility in Arlington, VA is hiring a full-time Major Gifts Manager to be a frontline fundraiser responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding high-net-worth individuals. The Major Gifts Manager manages a focused portfolio of donors to secure major financial commitments to advance the organizations' mission. This is a full-time, M-F 9am-5pm, salaried position with full benefits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • 5 years of experience in major gift fundraising
  • Proven record of accomplishment of managing million-dollar capital campaigns
  • Demonstrated experience soliciting and raising major gifts, over $1 million and above
  • Strong understanding of philanthropic trends and best practices
  • Solid knowledge of the Federal, State, Local and Private grant and demonstrated experience with successfully obtaining grants
  • Experience cultivating and managing relationships with senior level staff, Board of Directors, and committee volunteers.
  • Experience in successfully negotiating all vendor contracts in support of development activities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Excel. Proficiency in Outlook applications.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed to perform job duties
  • Ability to travel as needed to perform job duties
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle, access to a motor vehicle and in possession of a valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with non-profit organizations, volunteers and volunteer committees preferred
  • Experience creating campaign marketing materials
  • Experience with event budget development
  • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge, Donor Perfect, or similar donor database software preferred

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and implement our major gifts program.
  • Cultivate relationships with existing major gifts prospects, as well as identify new prospects.
  • Generate revenue and cultivate relationships through all development and fundraising activities as assigned.
  • Help our donors accomplish their philanthropic goals and ambitions through a relationship with our organization.
  • Secure major gifts at the $x to $x level with the goal of raising $x annually.
  • Manage systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects, including our donor database and wealth screening tools.
  • Manage existing portfolio of x# donors and prospects.
  • Work with the development department to align efforts and set goals.
  • Create and implement moves management plans.
  • Make direct, face-to-face solicitations, and assist the board and other staff with their solicitation (e.g. provide portfolio development support, strategic counsel, and help with donor communications).
  • Acknowledge major donors through public and private recognition.
  • Track and report progress using specific metrics.
  • Solicit and secure sponsorships, auction items and ticket sales for fundraising events.
  • Responsible for managing stewardship and protocol for major gift donors including acknowledgment materials; progressive communications based on level of giving; engagement opportunities with subject experts, senior management and board leaders and unique engagement opportunities based on level of giving.
  • Responsible for the planning and execution of major gift cultivation events.
  • Track all outstanding pledges monthly. Manage solicitation and stewardship donors for payment of pledges through phone calls, emails, and letters, as appropriate.
  • Manage relationships, membership organizations (i.e., Kiwanis, Host Lions Club, Rotary Clubs, etc.) and prepare all applications and documents required.
  • Identify and manage crowdfunding opportunities for revenue generation through such platforms as Amazon Smile, Do More 24, Facebook Fundraisers etc. and manage promotion of these opportunities.
  • Completing XX donor visits each year (including in-person, phone calls, and substantive high-touch email exchanges), making XX+ solicitations annually.
  • Engaging regularly with each qualified major gift prospect, emphasizing one-to-one interaction, either in person or virtually, depending upon each donor’s unique preferences.
  • Working in conjunction with the Director of Development, other members of the Development Team, and staff to curate individual, tailored prospect engagement strategies in alignment with key initiatives.
  • Conducting prospect research to strengthen the prospect pipeline and undertaking regular portfolio review in collaboration with the Director of Development.
  • Create a plan for each donor that will serve as a foundational communication and engagement plan for each person on the caseload.
