About The Position

This position is responsible for planning, developing, and managing the Major Gifts Department within the Development Department. It coordinates major funding, particularly from individuals within the command, and provides oversight and/or coordination for proposals related to individual funding for Salvation Army programs. The role seeks new funding opportunities and works with the Director of Development to create comprehensive development plans focusing on cultivating major gift resources, multi-year commitments, and strategic support to generate revenue. The position also assists in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating resource development strategies to meet departmental and Area Command goals. Responsibilities include preparing solicitation materials for individual, corporate, and foundation prospects, accompanying Advisory Board members, Volunteers, the Area Commander, and the Director of Development to meetings and community events to promote The Salvation Army and its development programs. The role involves public speaking to raise awareness and support for programs, acting as a liaison to prospects, donors, and external contacts, and developing community relationships to enhance support for the position's responsible operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, marketing, communication, or related field.
  • Three to five years related work experience in fundraising.
  • Two years in major gifts.
  • One year in supervisory role preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Valid State Driver’s License

Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops and manages the Major Gifts Department within the Development Department.
  • Coordinates major funding particularly from individuals within the command.
  • Provides oversight and/or coordination and preparation of proposals for all requests for major individual funding appropriate to The Salvation Army, seeking out new funding opportunities for Army programs around the command.
  • Works directly with the Director of Development and team to develop comprehensive development plans that include the cultivation of major gift resources, multi-year commitment funds and other strategic support in order to generate revenue to support the Area Command.
  • Assists in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating a variety of resource development strategies as part of the development team in order to achieve short-range and long-range goals of the department and the Area Command.
  • Prepares solicitation materials for individual prospects and as needed for corporate and/or foundation prospects.
  • Accompanies Advisory Board members, Volunteers, Area Commander, and Director of Development to meetings and other community involvements as assigned, which are pertinent to the promotion and support of The Salvation Army and enhancing its development programs and projects.
  • Performs public speaking to promote awareness and support of Salvation Army programs.
  • Acts as liaison to prospects, donors, and external contact.
  • Develops relationships with the local and broader community to enhance support of operations for which this position is responsible.
