This position is responsible for planning, developing, and managing the Major Gifts Department within the Development Department. It involves coordinating major funding, particularly from individuals within the command, and providing oversight and/or coordination for proposals for all requests for major individual funding appropriate to The Salvation Army. The role seeks out new funding opportunities for Army programs around the command and works directly with the Director of Development and team to develop comprehensive development plans. These plans include the cultivation of major gift resources, multi-year commitment funds, and other strategic support to generate revenue for the Area Command. The position also assists in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating a variety of resource development strategies to achieve short-range and long-range goals. Responsibilities include preparing solicitation materials for individual, corporate, and/or foundation prospects, accompanying Advisory Board members, Volunteers, Area Commander, and Director of Development to meetings and community involvements pertinent to promoting and supporting The Salvation Army and enhancing its development programs and projects. The role also involves public speaking to promote awareness and support of Salvation Army programs and acting as a liaison to prospects, donors, and external contacts. Developing relationships with the local and broader community to enhance support of operations is also a key function.
