About The Position

The Maintenance Department's objective is to preserve and enhance EIHAB buildings, grounds, facilities, and equipment, ensuring the physical environment is safe, free of hazards, in good order, and compliant with regulations. The role involves promoting EIHAB's mission of providing dignity, self-respect, and opportunities to those in need, enabling self-reliance and productive societal participation. The position requires constant vigilance for health and safety issues, taking immediate action when discrepancies are found. Responsibilities include performing minor and major repairs and refurbishments to the physical plant, equipment, and grounds, as well as routine and complex preventive maintenance on buildings, equipment, and vehicles. Participation in required training, cooperative acceptance of assignments, and effective completion of work are essential. All work must comply with code requirements. The role demands knowledge of safe tool usage and the ability to isolate mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. Responding to off-hour emergencies to effect repairs or shut down equipment is also a requirement, along with compliance with all safety policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned will be performed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 18 years of age and acceptable Background Clearance.
  • A medical examination to be completed before the start date and renewed every two years thereafter.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one year minimum related experience; or such alternatives to the above qualifications as the CEO/Executive Director may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Have at least 5 years experience in building maintenance
  • Experienced in painting and sheet-racking, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC and tiling.
  • At least 2 years experience in 2 of the above skillsets
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide by 10’s and 100’s.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variable situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively, normal color vision; ability to use hand and power tools.
  • Must be able to climb, crawl and perform physical labor.
  • Requires experience in one or more of the following skills: mechanical, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and/or electrical; equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Require a valid driver’s license and a high school diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

  • Promote, educate others, and be responsible for the Mission of EIHAB Human Services.
  • Is alert to health and safety issues at all times and takes immediate action when any discrepancies are found in these areas.
  • Performs minor and/or major repairs and refurbishment to the physical plant, equipment and grounds as assigned.
  • Performs routine and/or complex preventive maintenance to buildings, equipment, vehicles, and other household tasks as assigned.
  • Participates in training as required.
  • Cooperatively accepts assignments and directions from supervisor or team leader on needed repairs, tools and equipment.
  • Asks appropriate questions.
  • Effectively completes the work as assigned or, if appropriate, refers the job to the team leader or supervisor.
  • All work must comply with code requirements.
  • Knowledgeable in the safe and appropriate use of hand and power tools.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of how to isolate mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC systems.
  • Cooperatively responds to off-hour emergencies to effect repairs or shut down equipment to ensure the continuing operation of the physical plant.
  • Complies with all policies regulating safety and safe work procedures.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
