About The Position

The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) is seeking a dependable and motivated Maintenance Worker to join their Facilities Maintenance team in Kansas City. This hands-on role involves maintaining the rehabilitation center, warehouse, thrift stores, and administrative facilities to ensure buildings, grounds, and equipment are safe, functional, and welcoming. The work directly supports The Salvation Army's mission of Doing the Most Good®.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED.
Minimum one (1) year of building maintenance, facilities maintenance, property maintenance, or related experience.
Valid driver's license.
Ability to maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
Ability to safely use hand tools and power tools.
Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
Basic painting and electrical skills.
Proficient with small hand tools.
Experience with equipment operation (lawnmowers, snow blowers, carpet cleaning equipment, buffers).
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Strong attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

Experience with preventive maintenance programs.
Basic plumbing repair experience.
Basic electrical troubleshooting and repair knowledge.
Painting and drywall repair experience.
Carpentry skills.
HVAC maintenance experience.
Experience operating lawn care and snow removal equipment.

Responsibilities

Perform general building maintenance and facility repairs.
Complete preventive maintenance tasks to support safe and efficient operations.
Assist with basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, drywall, and HVAC maintenance projects.
Respond to maintenance work orders and repair requests.
Maintain floors through cleaning, buffing, waxing, and routine upkeep.
Inspect facilities and identify maintenance needs.
Perform lawn care, landscaping, mowing, trimming, and general grounds maintenance.
Assist with snow and ice removal during winter weather.
Maintain safe, attractive, and functional exterior property conditions year-round.
Move furniture, fixtures, equipment, and donated materials as needed.
Assist with room setups and event preparation.
Support facility improvement and renovation projects.
Escort and assist contractors, vendors, and service providers.
Operate Salvation Army vehicles to transport tools, supplies, and materials between locations.
Follow facility safety procedures and organizational policies.
Maintain maintenance equipment and tools.
Perform other maintenance-related duties as assigned.
