About The Position

Responsible for the repair, overhaul, and preventive maintenance of hospital-owned equipment, fixtures, fittings, furnishings, and utilities distribution. The role requires working under normal day-to-day conditions as well as emergency conditions where all equipment must function normally. Additional duties of a special nature may be assigned by supervisors. The position also involves general building repairs, paint and patch work, minor electrical repairs, medical gas outlet repairs, and lighting/circuit breaker maintenance. The employee must understand and comply with hospital policies, safety regulations, and ethical conduct, while supporting the hospital's mission and vision with excellent customer service. Participation in an "on-call" rotation is mandatory.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Demonstrates expert level knowledge of maintenance practices.
  • Expert level skills in common tools and equipment.
  • Effectively meeting customer needs; building productive customer relationships; taking responsibility for customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Actively participating as a member of a team to move the team toward the completion of goals.
  • Being aware of conditions that affect employee safety.
  • Good verbal and written skills are essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer 3 years experience in a related job or equal in training and on-the-job training.
  • At least 1 year experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Prefer at least 3 years experience and a high level of knowledge in a specific trade to include either HVAC, refrigeration, or electrical.
  • Certified in a related field preferred.
  • Complete competencies as defined by department/unit and/or clinical specialty area.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to all trouble calls in the hospital.
  • Perform repairs on non-medical equipment, including dietary, environmental service equipment, beds, plumbing, lighting, and HVAC.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on non-medical equipment such as air handling units, dish machines, and exhaust fans.
  • Restart and shut down chillers and boilers.
  • Responsible for the implementation and coordination of fire drills and serve as a member of the hospital fire response team.
  • Document regulatory requirements for entities such as The Joint Commission and Texas Department of Health and Human Services.
  • Make general building repairs, including carpentry, ceiling and floor repairs, and furniture.
  • Perform paint and patch work.
  • Conduct minor electrical repair to portable non-medical equipment.
  • Repair medical gas outlets in patient rooms.
  • Replace building interior lighting as needed and reset circuit breakers.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
  • Understand and enforce system, departmental, and hospital policies and procedures, as well as established rules and regulations.
  • Learn and comply with corporate and facility safety policies and rules; use appropriate safety equipment and procedures; immediately report all unsafe conditions to supervisors; be familiar with all safety features of equipment, tools, or materials encompassed by job duties; and check with supervisors if there is a question about the safe procedure for any job function.
  • Understand and comply with the Hospital's code-of-conduct and model ethical behavior.
  • Support the Mission and Vision of the Hospital and demonstrate excellent customer service.
  • Participate in "on-call" rotation.
