About The Position

Family Service League is seeking a full-time Maintenance Worker for a homeless shelter in Lindenhurst, NY. The Maintenance Worker, under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, is responsible for the maintenance of the interior and exterior of property and grounds, in accordance with Suffolk County regulations. Responsible for repair and maintenance of all facility equipment and structure. $3,000 Sign-On Bonus!

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience performing building maintenance and repairs is required. This includes demonstrated experience in electrical, plumbing, spackling and painting, maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment, and groundskeeping.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team required.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office, especially Outlook, are required.
  • Valid, clean New York State Driver’s License required.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the Suffolk County Department of Social Services requirements is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Facilities Management software preferred.
  • OSHA training or certification strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • The Maintenance Worker will prepare rooms for occupancy, including hanging sheet rock, spackle, painting, and routine maintenance.
  • Perform electrical and structural repairs or installations.
  • Perform mid-level plumbing duties: snake lines, remove and install toilets, and repair leaking pipes in ceilings, walls or under countertops.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled safety checks externally and internally throughout the building, including all equipment. Perform or schedule repairs as necessary.
  • The Maintenance Worker will perform of schedule repairs as necessary.
  • Maintain the interior of the property by performing routine maintenance tasks, including removal and replacement of light bulbs and ceiling tiles, unclogging drains, drywall repair and painting.
  • Notify Property Manager timely of the need for repairs or replacement of equipment or furniture.
  • Perform heavy cleaning duties, including cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing garbage.
  • Maintain the exterior of the property by blowing leaves, picking up trash and debris, sweeping, trimming, weeding, and removing snow and ice.
  • This position is essential to the safe and continuous operation of the program. Essential employees are expected to report to work during inclement weather and other relevant emergency situations to ensure uninterrupted care and support for clients.
  • All other duties as assigned.
