Under supervision, the Maintenance Worker performs semi-skilled and unskilled repair and maintenance work on City streets, sewer and water systems, solid waste collection equipment and facilities, parks, buildings, and related areas. Assignments are generally focused on solid waste collection or a particular maintenance area. Work follows established instructions; workers receive thorough instructions for new tasks and, after training, are expected to work without constant supervision. Work is reviewed periodically, and variations are generally referred to a lead worker. Under supervision, the role may also include some skilled work associated with the assigned area. The position requires heavy physical work, including lifting, carrying, or pushing up to 100 pounds and frequently handling objects weighing up to 60 pounds. Work may take place in trenches or other semi-enclosed spaces and often involves dust and pollen. A valid California driver's license and a good driving record are required.
