About The Position

The Aviation Department, which operates the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and the North Perry Airport, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Maintenance Worker. The selected candidate will work in and around the Airport property and grounds with the primary function of keeping the property and grounds clean and free of debris. The starting pay for this exciting, dynamic, and fast-paced Maintenance Worker position is $17.12 per hour. Applicants selected for employment with the Aviation Department are subject to extensive security screening, including but not limited to fingerprint checks, employment verification and such other procedures as may be mandated by Federal law as a continuing condition of employment.

Requirements

  • Requires three (3) months in maintenance work including performing grounds and landscape maintenance or closely related experience.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License based on area of assignment.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain Airport security & customs badging.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain Airfield driving privileges, movement & non-movement.
  • Must be able to work nights, holidays and weekends.
  • Must be able to patch asphalt, mend fences, use hand and power tools, lift and move equipment and furniture, and; assist trades and other Airport employees as needed.
  • Must be able to follow directives and communicate clearly with coworkers and other maintenance support staff regarding problems and situations that may arise.
  • Must be able to Lift, Push, & Pull up to 80 Lbs in weight.

Responsibilities

  • Mow grass, edge and trim around airfield lighting, weed eat, hand weed and clear flower beds, trim bushes, trees and hedges.
  • Patch asphalt, mend fences.
  • Use hand and power tools.
  • Pressure clean sidewalks.
  • Lift and move equipment and furniture.
  • Assist trades and other Airport employees as needed.
  • Work in and around the Airport property and grounds with the primary function of keeping the property and grounds clean and free of debris.
  • Maintains grounds and landscape areas to ensure that grounds and landscape areas are presentable, clean, and safe.
  • Work outdoors in extreme weather conditions, including, hot, humid, cold, wet, damp conditions, with fumes, dust, and aircraft noise and in and around construction areas.
  • Operate a handheld radio, cell phone and check County E-Mail on a computer.
  • Follow directives and communicate clearly with coworkers and other maintenance support staff regarding problems and situations that may arise.
  • Follow safety directives and use sound judgment.
  • Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods, climb ladders & stairs.
  • Perform light janitorial work to clean in and around work areas and equipment.
  • Lift, Push, & Pull up to 80 Lbs in weight.
  • Cleans offices, break rooms, restrooms, halls, shop areas, pavilions, and sidewalks, to provide a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for the public and other staff.
  • Moves a variety of furniture and related items to relocate/rearrange workstations/offices, set up for meetings, activities, and events.
  • Sets out temporary traffic control devices at the work site to provide a safe work environment and facilitate safe, efficient traffic flow.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
