About The Position

This is a part-time position in the Parks Department with three openings, two located in the Mountain Zone and one in the Bishop Zone. The starting rate for this position will not exceed $17.34 per hour. The role involves performing a variety of landscaping, maintenance, construction, and custodial duties across various parks and facilities. Responsibilities include maintaining grounds, repairing facilities, cleaning areas, managing inventory, operating equipment, and performing general maintenance on machinery and tools. The position also requires adherence to safety protocols and reporting of faulty equipment. Additional related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• One year of experience in building maintenance, parks, landscaping, or a related field.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License, including appropriate endorsements.
• Ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with emphasis on climbing and balancing, and involving stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds), with occasional heavier objects (up to 100 pounds).
• Ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, and visual cues or signals.
• Ability to communicate orally.

Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of landscaping duties such as mowing grass, planting flowers and shrubs, weeding, edging, clearing debris, spreading ground cover, applying herbicides and pesticides, pruning trees and shrubs, aerating and seeding grass, servicing irrigation systems, and grooming ball fields.
• Performs maintenance and construction tasks for various facilities, including resurfacing playgrounds, fields, and courts; painting buildings, equipment, and parking lots; repairing fences and playground equipment; building sets, staging, shelves; and performing light plumbing, electrical, masonry, and carpentry repairs.
• Performs general custodial duties at various parks and facilities, including cleaning restrooms, kitchens, locker rooms, meeting rooms, and other areas; vacuuming carpets; hosing decks; scrubbing and waxing floors; dusting; washing windows; emptying trash; and setting up and tearing down staging, chairs, tables, and bleachers for events.
• Maintains inventory of equipment, parts, and supplies, including gathering supplies, transporting them to work sites, initiating orders for materials, and maintaining related documentation.
• Operates County vehicles and various equipment, power tools, and hand tools for work assignments, such as lawn mowers, weed eaters, blowers, tillers, bobcats, tractors, dump trucks, wheelbarrows, jackhammers, sledgehammers, saws, chippers, and backhoes.
• Performs general maintenance tasks to keep machinery, equipment, and tools in operable condition, including inspecting equipment, checking and replacing fluids, greasing equipment, washing/cleaning equipment, and cleaning shop and work areas.
• Monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety, and reports faulty equipment.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
