About The Position

The Maintenance Worker maintains the overall appearance of cemetery, mausoleum, and/or funeral home locations. Work includes groundskeeping, locating and digging graves, installing crypt faces and grave markers, assisting with interments, entombments, and inurnments, and performing simple repairs and general maintenance. The role also involves maintaining equipment, vehicles, and facilities, and following applicable safety procedures and regulations.

Requirements

High school education or equivalent, or relevant work experience.
At least 6 months of relevant experience.
Ability to operate hand-held tools and equipment, including a shovel, pick, rake, sledge hammer, lawn mower, weed trimmer, and leaf blower.
Ability to accurately use measuring devices such as a tape measure or yardstick.
Ability to walk and stand for long periods.
Ability to lift up to 150 pounds with equipment assistance.
Ability to push and pull up to 300 pounds.
Ability to communicate effectively with associates, contractor personnel, and client families.
Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
Ability to adapt to changing work schedules and multitask.
Basic computer skills to retrieve and respond to email communications.

Responsibilities

Cut grass; maintain lawns; trim around trees, walkways, and memorial markers; lay sod; and move flowers to and from chapels and gravesides.
Clear debris and maintain drives and walkways, including snow removal where applicable.
Erect tents and canopies and arrange chairs for graveside ceremonies.
Assist with setup for openings and closings for interments, entombments, and inurnments.
Arrange chapels for services.
Prepare crypts for entombments.
Under supervision, operate a backhoe to dig graves without damaging surrounding vaults, markers, or monuments.
Install grave markers, bronze memorials, crypt faces, and related items.
Maintain and repair existing markers and other cemetery features.
Maintain, service, clean, and properly store equipment.
Perform general vehicle maintenance.
Clean and maintain facilities, including minor repairs and painting.
Observe safety rules and ensure compliance with corporate, federal, state, and local operating procedures and regulations, including OSHA regulations and Safety and Environmental guidelines.
