About The Position

As a Maintenance Worker, you'll play an important role in creating a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained environment for our residents, staff and visitors. This is a hands-on position with variety every day. From maintaining buildings and equipment to caring for the grounds and responding to urgent maintenance needs, your work will directly support the comfort, safety, and quality of life of our residents. If you're a skilled, dependable maintenance professional who takes pride in solving problems and keeping things running smoothly, we would love to have you join our team.

Requirements

  • At least three years of experience, education, and/or training in general maintenance and repair work.
  • Working knowledge of several general maintenance areas, such as carpentry, plumbing, basic electrical work, painting, masonry, groundskeeping, and custodial functions.
  • Current and valid Maine driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a healthcare or nursing home environment is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs throughout the facility and grounds.
  • Complete basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, masonry, painting, and other general maintenance work.
  • Maintain lawns, sidewalks, parking areas, driveways, and other outdoor spaces through mowing, trimming, raking, shoveling, sanding, plowing, and related work.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and service building equipment and systems.
  • Assist with heating and cooling system maintenance.
  • Complete custodial and facility support tasks, including moving furniture and equipment, replacing light bulbs, receiving and storing supplies, and completing errands.
  • Set up and break down rooms for meetings, activities, and special events.
  • Operate Maine Veterans’ Homes vehicles to pick up and deliver supplies and materials.
  • Respond to urgent or emergency maintenance needs, including some on-call responsibilities outside regular working hours.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and required paperwork.
  • Help ensure the facility remains safe, functional, sanitary, and comfortable for residents, families, employees, and visitors.
