About The Position

This position is responsible for performing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled construction tasks, including completing temporary and permanent repairs to roadways and sidewalks. The role involves setting up and maintaining traffic control and safe work zones, operating light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, and utilizing internal software programs to input data. The ideal candidate is confident, self-motivated, enjoys working outdoors in various weather conditions, and is comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment. This role offers a four-day work week with 10-hour days, resulting in three-day weekends.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent and one year of experience in construction or maintenance work or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities.
  • Knowledge of methods, common tools and equipment used in public works construction and maintenance work, basic safety precautions and procedures.
  • Ability to perform skilled and unskilled maintenance work.
  • Ability to operate and perform routine maintenance and servicing of a variety of power-driven equipment and power tools.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to work safely and efficiently with others and assist in the training of less experienced workers.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with the public.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a California Commercial Motor Vehicle "Class A" Driver's License with endorsements (air brake and tanker) and a satisfactory driving record as a condition of satisfactory completion of the probationary period.
  • Must be eligible for employment in the United States of America.
  • Must pass a pre-employment medical exam, which includes a drug screen.
  • Must provide proof of a valid California driver's license and be insurable.
  • Must pass a reference and background verification.
