About The Position

The Street Maintenance Worker performs maintenance, repair, and improvement work on city streets, signage, and related public infrastructure. This position involves skilled labor, equipment operation, and participation in a wide range of public works activities including snow and ice control, roadway maintenance, and infrastructure repair. Work is performed under the direction of the Street Foreperson. The position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team to complete assigned tasks safely and efficiently while providing quality service to the community.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of experience in street maintenance, construction, or related public works activities.
  • Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), with Tanker Endorsement or ability to obtain within six months of employment.
  • Satisfactory driving record and ability to meet Federal DOT requirements.
  • Respond to after-hours, weekend and emergency callouts as part of an on-call rotation.

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) years of experience in street maintenance, construction, or related public works activities.
  • Three (3) years of experience with snow and ice control operations.
  • Three (3) years of experience operating trucks, loaders, plows, street sweepers and other heavy equipment.
  • Three (3) years of familiarity with pavement maintenance techniques such as patching, crack sealing, and seal coating.
  • Three (3) years of familiarity with concrete work including sidewalk, curb, and small slab repair.
  • Three (3) years of experience with basic digital recordkeeping or work order systems.
  • Possession of Class A Commercial Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Performs maintenance and repair work on city streets, alleys, and right-of-way infrastructure.
  • Assists with installation, repair, and maintenance of street signs, traffic control devices, and pavement markings.
  • Operates light and heavy equipment such as plow trucks, loaders, dump trucks, and other public works equipment.
  • Participates in snow and ice control operations including plowing, sanding, salting, and equipment preparation.
  • Performs pavement maintenance activities such as patching, crack sealing, pavement marking and other roadway repairs.
  • Assists with construction and maintenance of sidewalks, curbs, drainage structures, and other public infrastructure.
  • Performs general labor tasks including lifting, shoveling, grading, and material handling.
  • Maintains and cleans equipment, vehicles, tools, and work areas to ensure safe operation and readiness.
  • Follows all City, State, and Federal safety regulations including OSHA, MnPCA, AWAIR, and Right-to-Know standards.
  • Assists with traffic control and work zone safety during maintenance and construction activities.
  • Records work activities, equipment use, and materials used as required.
  • Responds to after-hours callouts and emergency situations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
