About The Position

The City of Fountain Valley Public Works Department is seeking one (1) Full-Time Maintenance Worker II - Streets to join our team! This position performs a variety of manual, semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation of a variety of Public Works streets, sidewalks and traffic signs, and performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school graduation or equivalent.
• At least one (1) year of previous maintenance experience in the repair, rehabilitation and construction including streets, sidewalk, curb and gutter, and traffic signs, preferably in a municipal setting OR At least six (6) months of experience as a Maintenance Worker I with the City of Fountain Valley.
• A valid California Class C Driver’s License is required to perform the essential functions of the job.
• Maintain, at all times, the license required for this job description.

Nice To Haves

• College coursework with an emphasis in maintenance, and/or construction maintenance is highly desirable.
• A Class “A” or “B” Commercial Driver’s License for manual transmissions with tanker and air brake endorsements is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the removal, replacement and overlay of a variety of asphalt concrete, street and highway sections.
• Maintain, repair and install traffic signs, markings and street striping.
• Remove, form, pour and finish Portland cement concrete sidewalks, curbs, gutters and other concrete structures.
• Operate jack hammers, compressors, grinding machines, saw cutting machines, water blaster, crack fillers, and other power equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance on streets, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, traffic signs and delineation.
• Remove graffiti utilizing power equipment and/or chemicals.
• Perform strenuous manual work as required, including digging, back-filling of trenches, etc.
