About The Position

The Maintenance Worker I performs a variety of semi-skilled manual tasks under the direct supervision of a Foreman, Lead Worker, or other higher-level classified employee. Duties may involve hand and power tools and the operation of light trucks and construction equipment. Work may take place in adverse weather or other challenging conditions. This is a non-exempt, full-time position in the Public Works Street Department, scheduled for 40 hours per week, at a pay rate of $16.75 per hour.

A high school diploma or GED from a U.S. Department of Education-accredited institution is preferred. Irrigation and tree-trimming or grounds-cleanup experience is desired. An equivalent combination of education, experience, and training may be considered. A valid Florida driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.

Requirements

• Possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Communicate verbally and in writing; read and write neatly.

• Work independently and diligently.
• Use hand and power tools related to the job.
• Maintain the good physical condition required for the work.
• Lift up to 75 pounds.
• Meet the stated vision requirement of 20/20 or corrected to 20/100.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

• Perform yard maintenance, including cutting grass, edging, weeding, laying sod, spreading grass seed, and fertilizing.
• Perform unskilled painting.
• Clean and patch potholes.
• Remove dirt and grease from vehicles.
• Assist with concrete work.
• Spray for insects.
• Change tires and service automotive equipment.
• Clean ditches and dig excavations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
