About The Position

This position performs Landfill duties.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of lawn equipment and hand tools.
  • Knowledge in operating grounds maintenance equipment to include zero turn lawn mower, weed eater, hydro seeder, tractor and hand tools.
  • Knowledge of erosion and sedimentation best management practices.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations concerning the operation of a landfill.
  • Knowledge of backing up a truck and trailer.
  • Skill in planting grass.
  • Skill in managing and supervising inmate laborers.
  • Skill in problem-solving and decision making.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • This position is required to supervise state inmate's labor.
  • Employee must pass the Department of Corrections three-day certification within the time frame required by this department, which is normally six months but may be altered.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for operating a zero-turn lawn mower, tractor with bush hog attached, hydro seeder, weed eater, and various hand tools.
  • Responsible for assisting in the maintenance of buildings on site that include the scale house area, and multiple storage buildings.
  • Responsible for assisting in the installation and maintenance of storm water control structures including silt fence, down drains, seeding, mulching, and check dams.
  • Assists customers with questions and concerns and maintains radio contact with landfill personnel.
  • Assists in the transportation of inmates to and from work sites and Muscogee County Prison.
  • Carries out a continuous effort to improve operations, work processes, and works cooperatively and jointly to provide continuous improvement and customer-driven service.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
