About The Position

The City of Wilmington is seeking a dependable and motivated Water Maintenance Worker I to assist with the operation, maintenance, and repair of the City’s water distribution system. Under general supervision, this entry-level position performs routine and semi-skilled work related to water mains, service lines, valves, hydrants, meters, and related equipment, while supporting the overall maintenance of water department facilities, vehicles, and grounds. This role provides opportunities to gain experience and develop skills within the water distribution field while working in compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Valid State of Ohio driver’s license with insurability under the City’s vehicle insurance plan.
Valid State of Ohio Class B CDL license.
Ability to perform physically demanding work in varied and sometimes adverse conditions.

Nice To Haves

Experience or working knowledge related to stormwater systems and water distribution lines.
Possession of a Water Distribution License.
Possession of a Water Operator License.

Responsibilities

Assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of water taps, water mains, service lines, valves, fire hydrants, street boxes, water meters, and related equipment.
Support marking or flagging of water main locations prior to excavation or repair work.
Assist with preventative maintenance of service trucks and equipment.
Participate in maintaining water department structures and surrounding grounds, including mowing, trimming, hauling materials, and general upkeep.
Assist with repairs performed in accordance with OEPA and AWWA standards.
Attend meetings, training sessions, and seminars as directed.
