About The Position

This position is responsible for maintaining the Right of Ways for the Urban Forestry & Beautification Division. The role involves removing dirt and debris from roads, carrying tools, mixing concrete, sweeping street gutters, shoveling gravel, snow, and dirt, raking leaves, and cutting brush. Responsibilities also include picking up litter and debris from the right of way, cleaning up spills with sand, removing trash and litter from curbs and gutters, raking leaves, using blowers, and cutting grass. The worker will direct traffic around work sites during road repairs, spread seeds, fertilizers, and mulch during landscaping, and load/unload trucks with materials. This role also involves maintaining landscaping, mowing, planting, and seeding, delivering concessions, chemicals, and miscellaneous equipment, and maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment. Additional duties include picking up garbage and debris as assigned, cleaning trucks and other equipment, applying fertilizer, planting grass and shrubbery, assisting in the cleaning and maintenance of the fleet yard, and removing trash from park grounds and buildings, including cleaning restrooms. The position also requires carrying out continuous efforts to improve operations and work processes, working cooperatively and jointly for continuous improvement and customer-driven service, and performing other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques utilized in the performance of grounds maintenance and landscaping activities.
  • Knowledge of the tools and equipment used in the performance of grounds maintenance and landscaping activities.
  • Knowledge of the safe operation of assigned equipment.
  • Skill in problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Skill in the operation of hand tools and other assigned equipment.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • This position is required to supervise state inmate's labor.
  • Employee must pass the Department of Corrections three-day certification within the time frame required by this department, which is normally six months but may be altered.

Responsibilities
