About The Position

The City of Maplewood is seeking a parks maintenance worker I or II to join our family friendly team. This role performs basic to skilled maintenance and labor work with the City park system including the upkeeping, repairing, replacing, constructing or reconstructing all park and recreation facilities, equipment, and grounds; performs related work as apparent or assigned. Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota a Class A CDL or able to obtain one in 6 months from hire date (for Maintenance Worker I).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota a Class A CDL (for Maintenance Worker II).
  • Must have no suspensions or revocations within the past three years.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One (1) year of experience (for Maintenance Worker I).
  • Seven (7) years equipment and turf maintenance experience or equivalent experience and/or training (for Maintenance Worker II).
  • Must meet D.O.T. Drug and Alcohol testing requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Carries out ground maintenance program for Parks and Natural Resources facilities including landscaping, turf establishment including herbicide application, mowing and trimming of park turf, preparing athletic fields including construction, reconstruction and daily maintenance, selecting, planting, and care of trees, shrubs and flowers, operating and maintaining irrigation systems, and removing trash.
  • Establishes and maintains safe and well-groomed ice-skating facilities including construction and repair of rinks, repair and distribution of hockey goals, snow removal, brooming, and flooding of ice-skating facilities, and snow removal in parking lots and on trails.
  • Carries out a year-round program of park building/shelter custodial service and repair including painting, cleaning, trash removal, and maintaining and installing doors, locks, windows, heaters, plumbing, roofs, and electrical fixtures.
  • Installs, inspects and repairs all play equipment to ensure its safe and efficient operation; paints, repairs and replaces equipment as needed and reports safety issues and maintenance needs.
  • Prepares and maintains all gravel and bituminous surfaces within parks and trailways including patching holes and cracks and striping parking lots and hardcourt surfaces.
  • Erects bleachers, hockey boards, fences, signs and shelters; constructs picnic tables and other items as directed.
  • Maintains daily work records, as assigned.
  • Operates and maintains equipment, such as front-end loader, mower, truck, snowplow, snow thrower, skid loader and small tractor.
  • Operates and maintains power tools, chain saws, and paint sprayers.
