About The Position

The City of Murrieta is seeking a dedicated and hardworking individual to join our Municipal Services Department as a Streets Maintenance Worker I/II. This position plays a vital role in maintaining the City’s roadways, sidewalks, and public right-of-ways to ensure they remain clean, safe, and accessible for all community members. As part of a collaborative and service-driven team, the Streets Maintenance Worker will perform a variety of tasks including asphalt patching, concrete repair, roadway striping, and street sign installation, as well as weed and debris removal. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who takes pride in their work and is committed to enhancing the quality of life and infrastructure for Murrieta residents through the care of our public streets. Work Schedule: This position is currently assigned a regular 9/80 work schedule; however, the schedule is subject to change based on operational needs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Maintenance Worker I - One (1) year of experience in construction, maintenance, and/or repair of parks, streets and roadways, storm water and drainage systems, traffic signs, facilities maintenance and/or related systems
  • Maintenance Worker II - Three (3) years of experience in construction, maintenance, and/or repair of parks, streets and roadways, storm water and drainage systems, traffic signs, facilities maintenance and/or related systems or two (2) years of experience equivalent to Maintenance Worker I with the City of Murrieta
  • Valid California Driver's License

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Qualified Pesticide Applicator Certificate "B" or "C" issued by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, Confined Space Entry certification
  • Possession of a Playground Safety Instructor Certificate issued by a nationally recognized organization such as the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) or International Playground Safety Institute (IPSI)

Responsibilities

  • Inspects assigned City area for safety issues and possible future work projects, and appropriately marks areas that need to be repaired
  • Operates and maintains specialized vehicles and a variety of light, medium, and heavy equipment related to the construction, maintenance, and repair of parks and grounds, streets, or facilities
  • Operates a variety of hand and power tools and equipment related to work assignment as instructed
  • Observes safe work methods and makes appropriate use of related safety equipment as required
  • Maintains public facilities, shop and garage areas, storage sites, and other work areas in a clean and orderly condition, including securing equipment at the close of the workday
  • Inspects City premises for graffiti vandalism, uses appropriate chemicals and high-pressure equipment to remove graffiti
  • Installs street barricades and cones and controls traffic around work sites, street closures, and special events to ensure safe conditions for the general public and City staff
  • Interacts with and provides information for the public and City staff
  • Maintains accurate logs and records of work performed and materials and equipment used
  • Attends training, meetings, and workshops as required to enhance job knowledge and skills
  • Estimates quantities needed and recommends selection of materials, replacements, etc. for respective areas
  • Coordinates assigned services and activities with those of other divisions and outside agencies
  • Responds to emergency situations as required
  • Ensures staff compliance with City and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols
  • May be temporarily assigned, on a daily basis, to other Maintenance Divisions including Public Works, Parks, and Facilities
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Performs construction, maintenance, and repair activities of City streets and roadways to ensure safe and efficient access for the public, including alleys, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, storm drains, roadway base and sub-base, guard rails, asphalt, pavement, crack seal application, concrete repair, traffic and street sign installation, repair, and reflectivity, and pavement markings
  • Performs inspection, construction, maintenance, and repair activities of City storm water and drainage systems to ensure safe and efficient access for the public, including concrete and open channels, pipes, drains, detention basins, and drop inlets
  • Digs trenches, places shoring, deconstructs surfaces for repair or replacement, and clears area of brush or other related obstacles.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs traffic signs, in accordance with Federal, State, and City codes
  • Participates in concrete maintenance, including attending to trip hazards, demolishing and removing concrete, and forming, pouring, and finishing sidewalks, handicap ramps, curbs, and gutters
  • Performs nuisance abatement by removing illegally dumped trash, glass, automotive parts, yard waste, furniture and other household items found in the City; performs weed abatement as needed
