The Maintenance Worker I/II - Street Maintenance position is a flexibly staffed series with two levels: Maintenance Worker I (entry-level) and Maintenance Worker II (journey-level). Maintenance Worker I performs routine duties under close supervision, progressing to more independent work with experience. Maintenance Worker II works under general supervision, requiring specific experience and less oversight. The role involves a wide range of installation, maintenance, repair, and construction duties related to street maintenance, including plumbing, concrete, carpentry, basic electrical work, servicing HVAC units, painting, pool maintenance, tree and vegetation management, herbicide and rodent abatement, street and traffic painting, graffiti removal, block wall restoration, sidewalk and driveway repair, storm drainage maintenance, trash removal, traffic control setup, park ground cleaning, irrigation system maintenance, and planting/maintaining greenery. Responsibilities also include operating various power equipment, maintenance vehicles, and hand tools, maintaining records, inventorying materials, and applying safe work practices. The position may require assisting other departments and responding to emergency or on-call situations.
