About The Position

The City of Vacaville is seeking applications for the position of Maintenance Worker I/II - Parks. This role involves performing a variety of maintenance, repair, installation, and construction work related to parks and other City landscape areas. The position is flexibly staffed and can be filled at either the entry-level Maintenance Worker I or the journey-level Maintenance Worker II. This recruitment will also establish an eligibility list for future use over the next 12 months. Requirements

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
  • Maintenance Worker I: One (1) year of experience in construction and maintenance work.
  • Maintenance Worker II: Two years of experience in public works general construction, maintenance and repair work, including the operation of some power-driven equipment.
  • Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Possession of a Qualified Applicators Certificate from State of California Department of Pesticide Regulation is required for Maintenance Worker II.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in public works is desirable.
  • Understanding of methods, tools, materials and equipment used in landscape maintenance.
  • Ability to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled construction tasks.
  • Familiarity with operation of a variety of power tools and landscape equipment.
  • Knowledge of municipal irrigation systems.

Responsibilities

  • Performs turf, irrigation and tree maintenance
  • Performs routine maintenance of restrooms
  • Applies a variety of pesticides and herbicides that control or eradicate pests and weeds
  • Maintains parks to enhance beauty in a horticultural plan
  • Operates spray units for spraying lawns and trees
