Requirements

Graduation from high school or equivalent.
One year of experience in construction or maintenance work, or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities.
Knowledge of methods, common tools and equipment used in public works construction and maintenance work.
Knowledge of basic safety precautions and procedures.
Ability to perform skilled and unskilled maintenance work.
Ability to operate and perform routine maintenance and servicing of a variety of power-driven equipment and power tools.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to work safely and efficiently with others.
Ability to assist in the training of less experienced workers.
Ability to deal tactfully with the public.
Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
Must be available to work day, night, and weekend shifts, with schedules subject to change.
Must pass a reference and background verification.
Must provide proof of a valid California driver's license and be insurable.
Must pass a pre-employment medical exam, including drug/alcohol screening.
Must complete a verification form designated by Immigration and Naturalization Service to certify eligibility for employment in the U.S. and furnish proof of legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

Perform routine maintenance and scheduled inspections on building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.).
Conduct general repairs to doors, windows, walls, flooring and other structural components.
Maintain lighting systems by replacing light bulbs, ballasts, and handling minor electrical repairs.
Handle basic plumbing tasks such as unclogging drains, fixing leaks, and replacing fixtures.
Paint and patch surfaces, including drywall repair and surface touch-ups.
Respond to emergency maintenance issues and support safety compliance checks.
Assist with renovation or remodeling projects.
Track and complete work orders, maintain supply inventory, and coordinate with outside vendors.
