Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • One year of experience in construction or maintenance work, or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities.
  • Knowledge of methods, common tools and equipment used in public works construction and maintenance work.
  • Knowledge of basic safety precautions and procedures.
  • Ability to perform skilled and unskilled maintenance work.
  • Ability to operate and perform routine maintenance and servicing of a variety of power-driven equipment and power tools.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to work safely and efficiently with others.
  • Ability to assist in the training of less experienced workers.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with the public.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Must be available to work day, night, and weekend shifts, with schedules subject to change.
  • Must pass a reference and background verification.
  • Must provide proof of a valid California driver's license and be insurable.
  • Must pass a pre-employment medical exam, including drug/alcohol screening.
  • Must complete a verification form designated by Immigration and Naturalization Service to certify eligibility for employment in the U.S. and furnish proof of legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and scheduled inspections on building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.).
  • Conduct general repairs to doors, windows, walls, flooring and other structural components.
  • Maintain lighting systems by replacing light bulbs, ballasts, and handling minor electrical repairs.
  • Handle basic plumbing tasks such as unclogging drains, fixing leaks, and replacing fixtures.
  • Paint and patch surfaces, including drywall repair and surface touch-ups.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance issues and support safety compliance checks.
  • Assist with renovation or remodeling projects.
  • Track and complete work orders, maintain supply inventory, and coordinate with outside vendors.
