Requirements

  • Six (6) months of custodial cleaning and building maintenance work.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Valid driver's license and free of any major traffic violations for the last three (3) years (if required to use County vehicles and equipment).
  • Knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic building maintenance practices.
  • Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Skill in the use of tools and materials commonly used in building, cleaning, and maintenance activities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public.
  • Ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written assignments.
  • Ability to work with team members.
  • Ability to properly use hearing protection devices in loud areas.
  • Ability to use the proper personal protective equipment against safety hazards when necessary.
  • Ability to comply with Olmsted Waste-to-Energy’s Safety Manual and perform specialized cleaning to prevent accumulation of lead in the common areas of the facility.
  • Ability to wear a filtering facepiece or half-face respirator when necessary.
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans County-owned buildings, fixtures, and furnishings.
  • Uses equipment, materials, and solvents.
  • Reviews Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and follows safety protocol.
  • Supports a diverse, respectful, and inclusive workplace.
  • Vacuums carpets, spot cleans, and shampoos as needed.
  • Operates and maintains various cleaning equipment.
  • Cleans drinking fountains, wash-bowls, fixtures, lavatories, and replenishes supplies.
  • Dusts woodwork, chairs, tables, desks and other furniture, and polishes furniture.
  • Empties waste receptacles.
  • Sweeps and mops floors, corridors, halls, and stairways.
  • Washes windows and cleans venetian blinds.
  • Strips wax from floors using chemicals and scrubbing machine, applies wax.
  • Alerts supervisor to problems or potential problems in the workplace regarding critical health and safety issues.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
