About The Position

The City of Aiken is seeking a Maintenance Worker to join our Public Services Department in the Buildings and Grounds Division. This role involves a variety of tasks related to the installation and maintenance of landscapes and grounds.

Requirements

• Must be able to read and write, as well as understand and follow verbal instructions
• Must have a valid state driver's license

Nice To Haves

• A working knowledge of annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees is preferred
• Experience with tractor/large equipment is desirable

Responsibilities

• Installation and maintenance of seasonal flowerbeds
• General landscaping maintenance
• Performing manual labor and related duties
• Installs sod, trees and various other plants
• Applies pesticides and herbicides
• Operates chipper and a variety of commercial mowers and small engine hand tools
• Works in inclement weather
• Teamwork is an essential function of the job and at times it may be required that the candidate work outside the Grounds Division.
