About The Position

The Welder Assistant performs a variety of duties to assist the Welder under the supervision and direction of the Maintenance Supervisor. This role requires operating various tools and equipment for metal cleaning and cutting, maintaining a clean work area, and adhering to strict Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). The position may involve assisting in other departments as needed. The work environment includes exposure to varying temperatures and potentially congested areas, requiring caution when operating equipment in tight spaces. This is a full-time position with expected hours of 40+ per week, often involving 10-12 hour work days and requiring weekend and overtime hours. Hormel Foods is an equal opportunity employer.

Requirements

• Must be able to read and calculate measurements
• Proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States is required for this position.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or GED.
• Previous experience working in welding/maintenance

Responsibilities

• Operates a variety of tools to clean and cut metals (i.e. grinder, chop saw)
• Uses additional equipment to cut and heat metals (i.e. oxygen/acetylene torch, plasma cutter)
• Keeps the work area clean and organized
• Must be able to stand between 2 – 3 hours at a time.
• Must be willing to follow all GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) of the company which include but are not limited to: use of a hair net, use of a company approved frock, no jewelry, no nail polish or artificial nails, no shorts, no open-toed shoes, no ripped clothing or rhinestones/glitter on clothing, no chewing gum, candy or tobacco.
