About The Position

This role is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of machinery and equipment within the plant. The position requires a broad range of technical skills including welding, pipefitting, carpentry, electrical work, and painting. The individual will also maintain essential plant utilities and services to ensure minimal downtime and adequate energy supply for production needs. This role involves responding to emergency repair calls, potentially outside of regular working hours. The position requires the ability to plan and execute jobs based on various technical documents and on-site inspections, and to proficiently use and maintain tools within the maintenance department. A key aspect is the ability to inspect, troubleshoot, and repair plant machinery, learning to think logically and maintain a general working knowledge across multiple industrial maintenance crafts. The role demands the ability to remain calm during emergencies, possess confidence in operating machinery, and know the location and operation of plant equipment. Cooperation and effective communication with other tradespeople, service representatives, and production personnel are essential. The position involves general problem-solving and decision-making within established guidelines and allows for a reasonable degree of independent judgment.

Requirements

  • Maintenance training
  • Ability to move, install, adjust & repair machines & equipment, including guards and other safety appliances.
  • Proficiency in welding, pipefitting, carpentry, electrical, painting & other techniques.
  • Ability to maintain plant utilities & services such as air, heat, water, electrical and hog systems.
  • Willingness to answer emergency calls and be called back to the plant outside of regular working hours.
  • Ability to visualize and plan jobs from sketches, blueprints, operating manuals and/or on-site inspections.
  • Ability to repair, set-up, sharpen & correctly use and care for most of the tools in the maintenance department.
  • Ability to inspect, troubleshoot, adjust, remove/replace parts of plant machinery without damaging parts.
  • Ability to learn to think logically.
  • General working knowledge in most of the crafts of industrial maintenance (machinist, millwright, painter, carpenter, electrician, pipe fitter, welder, steam fitter).
  • Ability to keep abreast of new methods, equipment and materials.
  • Ability to remain levelheaded in all kinds of emergencies.
  • Confidence in own ability to handle machines.
  • Knowledge of location and operation of most equipment and controls in the plant.
  • Ability to cooperate and work with other trades people, factory service reps and production personnel.
  • General problem-solving and decision-making skills within limits of standard methods.
  • A reasonable degree of independent judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Moves, installs, adjusts & repairs machines & equipment, including guards and other safety appliances.
  • Performs welding, pipefitting, carpentry, electrical, painting & other techniques as needed, with due regard for safety of plant personnel & fire hazards.
  • Maintains plant utilities & services such as air, heat, water, electrical and hog systems to minimize downtime & assure adequate supplies of energy & power.
  • Answers emergency calls in the plant to repair machines or equipment, including being called back to the plant outside of regular working hours.
  • Visualizes and plans jobs from sketches, blueprints, operating manuals and/or on-site inspections.
  • Repairs, sets-up, sharpens & correctly uses and cares for most of the tools in the maintenance department.
  • Inspects, troubleshoots, adjusts, removes/replaces parts of plant machinery without damaging parts.
  • Learns to think logically.
