About The Position

JT4, LLC provides engineering and technical support to multiple western test ranges for the U.S. Air Force, Space Force, and Navy under the Joint Range Technical Services Contract, better known as J-Tech II. JT4 develops and maintains realistic, integrated test and training environments and prepares our nation's war-fighting aircraft, weapons systems, and aircrews for today's missions and tomorrow's global challenges. Working as a team lead of the Mechanical/HVAC maintenance trades work group, the incumbent uses high-level knowledge of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, structural, and/or plumbing assemblies to lead the on-site repairs of facilities, machinery, mechanical and electrical equipment and other related subsystems. Work is performed in accordance with pertinent guides and regulations of the trade.

Requirements

Graduate from a two-year accredited technical institution or equivalent and completion of a formal apprenticeship program.
Possess journeyman-level proficiency in one or more of the building trades disciplines (Mechanical/HVAC/Electrical) and 15 years of directly related work experience with Mechanical or HVAC as the base trade.
Incumbent with HVAC as a base trade, must have a Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) Certification upon hire.
Incumbent is considered a Subject Matter Expert in base field with thorough knowledge of functional area and department policies.
Incumbent has attended or is in the process of formal training of a second trade with working experience in that trade and working knowledge of a third trade either through on the job training or continuing education.
Performance of these activities requires current knowledge in the proper use of all hand tools.
Must possess a working knowledge of the technical terminology and language structure related to a variety of electrical and mechanical equipment/systems supported by the work unit.
Must have basic personal computer skills and knowledge of software and/or database usage sufficient to maintain records and files.
Possess good verbal and written communication skills, effective leadership skills and be knowledgeable of project cost estimating and budgeting procedures.
Must effectively communicate with numerous customer and work unit employees.
Must be knowledgeable of vendor sourcing systems and related departmental logistics and supply procedures.
May be required to qualify for and maintain a government security clearance.
Must have a valid, current state-issued driver’s license.
Must be a U.S. citizen.

Responsibilities

Provide guidance and technical expertise to technicians in troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining electrical, mechanical, HVAC and related equipment and systems.
Oversee technicians with the breakdown of subsystems and effects repairs primarily using hand tools.
Oversee technicians in the identification of defective parts and replaces with items obtained from existing stock.
Prepare written specifications for major repairs or for production of parts ordered from a machine shop.
Lead technicians in the reassembly of machines, equipment and systems under repair and make all necessary adjustments for operation.
Install, service and repair environmental-control systems utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting and structural layout.
Mount compressor and condenser units on platform or floor according to blueprints or specifications.
Fabricate and install ductwork and chassis parts using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment.
Install evaporator units in chassis or in air-duct systems.
Cut, bend and/or thread tubing or pipe by using appropriate equipment in order to join tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by use of sleeves, couplings or unions and solder to form a complete circuit for refrigerant.
Install expansion and discharge valves in circuit.
Connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls and circulating ventilation fans to control panels then to power source.
Install air and water filters in completed installation.
Observe pressure and vacuum gauges and adjusts controls to ensure proper operation.
Wrap pipes in insulation batting and secures them in place with cement or wire bands.
Replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring to repair installed units using electrician hand tools and test equipment.
Provide work direction and or instruct lower level maintenance workers as required.
Provide input to supervisor regarding project status, budget development and employee evaluation.
Perform all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.
