About The Position

Applies basic welding processes with pulse MIG and/or TIG to aluminum, stainless and carbon steel to join, surface, fabricate or repair parts of metal or other weldable materials. This role involves laying out and marking points on parts or subassemblies, positioning pieces for welding, and performing all work in accordance with established safety procedures. The trainee will read blueprints and drawings, determine appropriate welding equipment, set up components, operate grinders, align pieces, and weld components using manual or semi-automatic equipment in various positions. Additionally, the role includes repairing machinery by welding pieces and filling gaps, and maintaining equipment in safe condition.

Requirements

  • 0-2 years of related experience
  • Requires a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to following written and verbal instructions.
  • Knowledge of basic welding procedures.
  • Knowledge of geometry, weld shrinkage, welding techniques, and physical properties of metal.
  • Willing to invest and shows initiative and quality craftsmanship.
  • Subject to testing of welding quals.
  • US Citizenship Required

  • Technical or Vocations Training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • May lay out and mark points on parts or subassemblies using rulers, squares, scribes, or templates.
  • May position pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools.
  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures.
  • Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.
  • Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements.
  • Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded.
  • Align components using calipers, rulers, etc. and clamp pieces.
  • Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead).
  • Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps.
  • Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
