About The Position

The primary duties and responsibilities of the Maintenance Tool Mechanic consist of, but are not limited to, the following: Exemplifies the Amcor Behaviors and Values at all times. Leads by example and exhibits professionalism in all areas when representing Amcor inside and outside of the plant. Work in a professional manner with other maintenance personnel and mold technicians as needed to keep all equipment in top working order resulting in only quality product being released to the customer. Reads and interprets blueprints or works from verbal or written instructions, sketches, or from the actual part to be copied or fitted. Plans the setup and operation of various machine shop tools, considering types of material, tolerances, and machine tool feeds and speeds. Heat treats and welds parts as required. Uses precision measuring and gauging tools, performing required inspections before, during, and after machining. Uses hand tools of the trade for modifications as required. Fits and assembles mold parts, tools, and dies. Sets up, runs off, and tests molds to produce a product meeting specification, tracing die difficulties to their source and making any necessary modifications. May assist machinists and millwrights in injection molding press overhaul. May assist product designers by providing information about potential manufacturing difficulties with new product designs. Various other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 2+ years industrial maintenance, manufacturing, technical school &/or Associates degree from an accredited technical institute or combination education and experience.
  • Regularly required to stand for long periods; use hands to finger, handle, or feel, objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.
  • Good hand-eye coordination is required.
  • Frequently required to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include distance, peripheral, and depth perception.
  • Frequently exposed to fumes, or airborne particles.
  • Frequently works near moving mechanical parts.
  • Good communication skills--verbal and written; must effectively communicate with employees, vendors, and customers.
  • Independent in working effectively with little supervision; self-starter, displaying ability to work and deliver results in a fast-paced, performance driven environment.
  • Good attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work as a cross-functional team member.
  • Extensive knowledge with electrical, hydraulic and injection molding machines.
  • Ability to communicate with designers concerning technical ramifications of designs.
  • Excellent corrected vision to read blueprints and to perform careful inspection of molds and test products.
  • Excellent manual dexterity, muscular control, and a delicate touch to accomplish precision work without damage to valuable molds.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with "hot runner" mold systems is highly preferred.
