About The Position

Upstate Niagara Cooperative, a dairy cooperative owned by over 200 local family farms, is seeking a Maintenance Technician. This role is crucial for repairing, troubleshooting, and maintaining high-speed processing and packaging equipment within a 24/7 continuous Dairy Food Processing Facility. The technician will also be responsible for installing systems and utilities, ensuring line efficiency goals are met, and supporting sustainable farming and community values. The company processes and markets milk, yogurt, dips, sour cream, and cottage cheese under brands like Upstate Farms®, Bison®, Milk for Life®, and Intense Milk®.

Requirements

  • Ability to troubleshoot and correct utilizing Industrial Electrical 480V, AC/DC Theory, Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Pumps, Mechanical Maintenance, Motors, Digital Electronics, Print Reading, Control Circuits, Power Supplies, Power Distribution, Test Instruments, and Computers.
  • Understanding of operational urgency and support for production requirements.
  • Adherence to safe operating practices.
  • Proficiency in using established preventative maintenance programs.
  • Ability to repair and replace defective parts.
  • Skill in adjusting functional parts of devices and control instruments.
  • Experience in repairing electrical instrumentation and control equipment.
  • Good communication skills for teamwork with Maintenance, Engineering, and Operators.
  • Minimum of twelfth grade level in math and reading.
  • Must complete Maintenance Skills Evaluation.
  • Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or one year related mechanical maintenance experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 18 years of age.

Nice To Haves

  • Boiler operation experience.
  • Ammonia experience.

Responsibilities

  • Repairing, troubleshooting, and maintaining high-speed processing/packaging equipment.
  • Performing preventative maintenance on systems and utilities.

  • Ensuring line efficiency goals are met.
  • Troubleshooting and correcting issues utilizing skills in Industrial Electrical 480V, AC/DC Theory, Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Pumps, Mechanical Maintenance, Motors, Digital Electronics, Print Reading, Control Circuits, Power Supplies, Power Distribution, Test Instruments, and Computers.
  • Supporting production requirements and understanding operational urgency.
  • Ensuring safe operating practices for self and others.
  • Using established preventative maintenance programs to maintain operating systems.
  • Repairing and replacing defective parts.
  • Adjusting functional parts of devices and control instruments.
  • Repairing electrical instrumentation and control equipment.
  • Collaborating with Maintenance, Engineering, and Operators as a team member with good communication skills.
  • Operating boilers and ammonia systems (a plus).
